She has previously completed her master’s in Comparative and International Studies at ETH in Zurich, a quantitative research-oriented master’s program in comparative political science. Besides her studies Fiona was research assistant in the SPUR group, where she worked on projects such as the report “Mehr Wohnraum für Alle?” which focuses on zoning plan changes and rent increases in the Canton of Zurich.
Fiona’s research interests centre around the impacts of city transformation policies and redevelopment on the social sustainability of urban areas. She aims to understand the impacts of urban development such as housing densification and the creation of replacement buildings on the displacement of residents, and how such processes contribute to segregation and gentrification.
We look forward to developing the project together with her, using federal population and housing registry data as well as official planning documents, with the goal of studying the effects of planning decisions on vulnerable groups as well as on newcomers.
