News & Events: Lunch Lecture: December Lunch Lecture: A Land of Tenants - Swiss Housing Policy in Historical Perspective, 1914-1974 (10 December 2025)
In the last lunch lecture of this semester's series, Dr. Florian Müller from FernUni Schweiz will discuss Swiss housing policy from a historical perspective.
By Responsible City Team on Tue, Sep 16, 2025
Throughout the twentieth century, the Swiss housing market was marked by limited federal intervention and the continued dominance of the profit-driven rental market. In this talk, Dr. Florian Müller examines federal housing policy from the First World War to the 1970s, with particular focus on two key periods: first, the Second World War, when temporary federal measures were introduced; and second, the post-war era, when most European countries significantly expanded state support for homeownership and social housing. He also explores how local authorities and private and non-profit housing developers adapted to the federal government’s restrained role in the housing sector.
The event will take place online on 10 December from 12:30 to 13:30 CET and can be attended via this Zoom link. More information on the Lunch Lecture series can be obtained from the flyer below.
